1403336 2015-06-22 06:23:00 We are considering giving up land line, just people who want to ring us have to pay, that doesn't seem right.

Your thoughts lads and PC.
And LWL.

I would hope that you have good friends that are prepared to pay for the privilege of speaking to you. Some, I'm certain, will not call you anymore - they may not be able to afford the cell phone charges.

And, of course, you will have to pay for every call. I'm assuming that you will make those calls brief.

1403338 2015-06-22 06:47:00 I ditched my landline months back. So peaceful. When Mum was still around I needed the landline, these days though all my friends & family have mobile phones and most have free minutes they can use . Then there's text messages.
If anyone I knew rang me often enough to be worth it I'd leave skype running when I was home and offer them that option, not as easy as a phone perhaps but free for anyone with an internet connection already.

Purely a personal choice, I rarely used mine and don't miss it.

1403339 2015-06-22 06:47:00 I did away with a landline years ago, only telemarketers rang anyways. I now go the mobily way, people who cant ring me can hopefully txt me to call them, otherwise it probably wasnt important.

I've been hearing that txting will be possible by landline, but that seems a bit late in my opinion but it'd probably work out alright for some.

Cheers,

KK

$20 a month gives you 200 mins.

1403341 2015-06-22 07:08:00 The scam callers won't be happy, they hate paying extra for Mobile calls :crying Lawrence (2987)
1403342 2015-06-22 07:10:00 I don't use the landline we have at home, everyone who wants to contact me uses other means or calls my mobile. When I move out, I'm not going to bother with a landline. pcuser42 (130)
1403343 2015-06-22 07:53:00 Don't have one as such but do have a normal phone on VOIP, only people who have the number is my family in England. Everyone in NZ uses my cell number. gary67 (56)
1403344 2015-06-22 08:18:00 We have a 'land line' in as much as we have an Orcon Genius modem and VOIP. According to Chorus, UFB is scheduled by the end of 2019, so if still in the land of the living by then, I'd go that way and still use VOIP.

Being a Luddite, I don't really have much need of a mobile phone, though I do have an ancient Nokia for use in extremis, which costs around $20 a year to keep topped up :)

Telemarketers, surveys and researchers etc are the downside to having a landline number, but as soon as they say "blah blah how are you ?" as they inevitably do, the phone is put down forthwith with no reply. I am past being polite.

1403345 2015-06-22 09:01:00 I love my landline. I do have various people round the country I ring though and don't have to worry about minutes or any of that.
Cellphones, meh.
Talk to son via cellphone and it's a PITA. He usually in warehouse and it cuts in and out, goes staticy depending where he is.
Hate them.
