| 519926 | 2007-01-28 03:07:00 | Running XP Pro, SP2 - all up to date. Further to my recent post about unconstained data growth (now solved, thanks to the help of everyone here), I have found a folder (using Treesize): C:\Windows\Installer, which, in addition to having a stack of folders with seemingly random unique strings for names, also has a large number of .MSI and .MSP files, again with random filenames. Windows\Installer folder size = 2.2GB. I assume these are the Windows Update install files. If this is so, is there any benefit in retaining these in case of a meltdown, given that they would need to be re-run in the correct order and also given that the names are, to an ordinary user like myself, randomly named (no doubt related to the M$ KB reference)? Do they serve any ongoing purpose, or can they be safely deleted (the folders, as well as the MSI files)? |
