If simple file sharing is unticked you would / may have to do this. Where do you enable simple file sharing on Pro? edit- OK, only on workgroups!! If there are no firewalls etc stopping things, thing should work. You don't have to enable guest a/c either.Do so with HOME, check MS web site As far as I know, simple file sharing uses the guest a/c.... |

| 519849 | 2007-01-29 00:06:00 | As far as I know, simple file sharing uses the guest a/c.... Well I've formatted these 2 PC's like 10,000 times, and they're networked to each other. And I've never had to add one to the other. Never added another user, and never used the guest account/s. And these have never had passwords on them, since there's only 2 of us here, and we're using 2 different computers. Simple file sharing is in my computer tools / folder options / view / bottom option. I think this is only in Pro not Home. |

When Pro is on a domain, you cant have simple file sharing, when HOME is in workgroup, simple file sharing is on by default....allegedly, well, according to MS site. Greg |

Exactly, so why would I use a guest ac in the first place. That maybe true, but who said anything about XP Pro being on / part of a domain? |

Speedy, just clarifying for Rob why the guest a/c is needed( for those users who have passwords on the pc's! My Pro is on a domain, which is why I didnt is SFS in pro! |

| 519854 | 2007-01-29 04:33:00 | I see nowhere here where you went into ZA's Firewall/Zones and added the trusted IP range of 192 . 168 . 1 . 1 to 192 . 168 . 1 . 254 . Without telling ZA you trust this range of addresses ZA is doing exactly what you installed it for! Yes, I think that is where the problem lay . If ZA was/is installed after the network was set up it will automatically configure itself for the network upon installation . You have to tell it you are on a network when installing, however . |

Yes I set up the network after I had set up and run ZoneAlarm . I have removed ZA and my network goes perfectly . So now I will be trying to re-install ZA and as you say I hope it picks up my settings . Thanks for the tip to tell it I'm on a network ! When I had my network set up problems I did look at some of the ZA settings but they are very user unfriendly IMO . Regards Digby |

| 519856 | 2007-02-01 08:23:00 | To clarify the guest account business, Speedy is right, you don't need to add ANY extra accounts or passwords and you can disable the top level guest account as most of us do . The networking is done via an unseen 'guest' account . The command 'net user guest /active:yes' will enable this account . It is enabled by default . Does ZA Pro set up automatically for your existing network? ZA free certainly doesn't . Glad you are going Digby . |
