2007-01-30 18:13:00 | Latest news : did the reinstallation of the controllers as mentioned previously, web pages load faster but I still can't access a .com site - if the website have a specific directory/whatever you can go to like www.yahoo.com/sport it will load, but not just the www.yahoo.com. Pinged the two addies Jen gave, both looked good. Where to from here? Should I change the DNS's back to where they were or should I keep it as suggested? Thanks for all the help sarel

2007-01-31 10:18:00 | You cant ping microsoft.com - so dont bother, you'll always get something like: ping microsoft.com Pinging microsoft.com [207.46.232.182] with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Ping statistics for 207.46.232.182: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), The DNS servers if they're set locally will override anything obtained in a DHCP lease from your router, so I wouldnt bother with your router settings. Stu: Those are also Xtras DNS servers... I was suggesting trying Orcons (Although Im not on Orcon myself, I just know they're good solid ones) because its Xtra thats been having the DNS issues of late. Sarel: Since the re-installation, have you tried updating the DNS servers on your PC back to the Orcon ones that I suggested?

2007-01-31 18:06:00 | Chill Unfortunately my speed (tested on that PCWorld speed page) now fell to 300 from a high of 1500. I've since reset the DNS servers but it only improved to 500 so hell, I don't know what's wrong. Still can't access .com websites, slow connections, bugger sarel

2007-01-31 20:49:00 | ping speeds wont be affected by your DNS servers.. They resolve the IP address TO ping, then the ping is sent... Same for transfer speeds... so that sounds incredibly dodgy! What happens if you try and ping yahoo.com, does it resolve the IP as 66.94.234.13? What happens when you go to: http://66.94.234.13 ? You should immediately get a Yahoo Page Not Found. If you do, thats good... post back your results

Yes, I know, but those ones I posted are more reliable then the default ones that the modem pick up by it self. |
