520006 2007-01-28 19:01:00 What are reasons that a web page coming off the net doesnt ever seem to finish loading?

Things like all images loaded? yes.
speed is low, but the page looks finished, but seems to still be loading.....the satus line tells me this, and the time just keeps going.

Is it an isp thing, a puter thing or a space alien thing? :p just checking to see if ya watching and reading closely:p

what other reasons do they not load? servers? the web page itself?
Im using Opera and it mostly happens on PF1 pages......
its all learning.

520007 2007-01-28 20:18:00 It could be the amount of people accessing it at the same time maybe?

I know downloading can take ages, if there's a lot of people on the same site and getting the same file, at the same time, so this could be why too .

I find PF1 slow at times too . I know the feeling I'm on dialup

Or maybe it only happens to people on dialup . :horrified

On some sites, they're full of images, and depending on how many images, and how big they are, it'll take ages .

Blocking images will speed things up a bit . <---- Which is what I usually do . . .

520008 2007-01-28 20:41:00 Does it happen on the pages that have Flash animations for ads? Chilling_Silence (9)
520009 2007-01-28 20:52:00 I've been getting that a little here on PF1 as well recently. The loading wheel just keeps on spinning and spinning ...

What often works is to click the stop loading page icon and then hit refresh and it will load normally without the hang-up.

[edit]
OK, well it didn't work that time. I have the page loaded about 95% according to the progress bar in Firefox and then it just sits there for some time. I see it transfers data from google-analytics.com during the page loading and it is currently sitting on that part so that might be behind the hold up.

520010 2007-01-28 22:23:00 The problem can occur when the site has invisible elements or server-side scripts that need to run, and they're inaccessible. Page counters are a good example. Also if the site invokes client-side scripts and your browser doesn't support them, the same thing can occur. Greg (193)

520013 2007-01-29 03:41:00 Hmmm happen to know what it is on the pages thats doing it? Maybe it's some weird ad or something... Is it on every page on PF1? CorbinH (37)
520014 2007-01-29 03:54:00 the three main pages........ home page, press f1 page and chat.

And if i start opening lots of tabs it does get worse..............every other web page, forum i have open is fine today.

frustrating

but in saying that it is getting better now, than what it was like before.........

so maybe its to do with load of people?

520015 2007-01-29 03:56:00 It's been happening to me here a lot as well and it's only this forum that does it . It started about a week or so ago and like Greg says, it's probably something like the site's invisible elements or server-side scripts that need to run .

I thought it might have been caused by something in my Hosts file but turning that off makes no difference .

Just press the Esc key and it will stop trying to load whatever it wants to load .
