2007-01-31 17:54:00 | If I read this correctly . . . . . you want a key for SP-2? To the best of my knowledge, I don't believe there is such a thing . There IS however, the key necessary to use XP . . . . and here's another case of where Belarc Adviser would have been priceless before this happened . Asking for anything else is just illegal and might get you trounced by the mods .

2007-01-31 18:28:00 | OK> . let's not admit to going to the net looking for a key . . OK? That is a red flag . As I understand it, you are trying to recover a lost key? And again, I say that Belarc was a very good thing to use b4 this happened . . but that's all gone now so you will have to prob call M$ and tell them your story and see if you get a hearing and sympathetic ear from them . Going out "there" and getting keys is very dangerous and illegal no matter in what country you reside . It's an international law-thing . :angry It makes Mr Gates very angry . It upsets the mods very much . As I understand it, the cd-rom with Windows on it will respond to (the correct) formula of numbers/letters that equate to some sort of higher mathematical progress and sequence that is proprietary in nature and secret at least . There are all sorts of urban legends about this . . but that's not a topic for discussion here .

2007-01-31 18:57:00 | do you have a computer that you installed with your own cd-key before you lost it? it is possible to get the cd-key from a running system so if you have such system running just use this to get back your key www.magicaljellybean.com

2007-01-31 19:51:00 | i would try to ring up mircrosoft nz and ask 4 new cd key. they will most likely ask for proof of purchase and picture of cd if you lost your recipt then hard luck if that dont work then try buying it of trademe because now that everyones trying to buy vista on tm xp auctions wont have as many bids so you should get it cheaper | techiekid (7219) | |
2007-01-31 20:43:00 | Blackhat, I understand what you're after, but I dont think that you quite understand what you're after. Speedy: Good man for thinkin first, but Magic Jellybean Keyfinder as heni72847 mentioned is good in my books! Saved my life countless times and I dont see anything wrong with grabbing the key that you currently have if its been lost Blackhat: The Serial Key is NOT in any way shape or form related to the media from which it was installed. All keys follow a certain kind of algorithm which is why ANY OEM CD can be used to install XP with ANY OEM CD Key. The way that Magic Jellybean works is it'll look into your registry and grab the currently used CD key from your (hopefully) still working installation of XP. Magic Jellybean is the only application specifically made for key extraction that I know works 100%, all others Ive had issues with the reliability of their extraction. Belarc seems to do the trick nicely, but it also brings a lot of extra information with it.. You should however still have the sticker attached to the bottom of the laptop or the side of the Dekstop case. If your PC has been formatted, then I know you're not going to wanna hear this but its simply too late, you cannot get your key back. DONT go buying 2nd hand OEM CDs off TradeMe, they've usually been activated to a specific machine (or may even be a vendor-specific OEM version which cannot be used on another vendors hardware or without a vendor-specific serial key) so play it safe and buy a NEW version. Looking online for pirated keys is not something we vouch for here, you'll only cause yourself grief as you're finding out. Dont do it.

2007-01-31 21:27:00 | Blackhat, if you have not yet formatted the Windows Partition you can still retrieve your serial key from that Windows Installation. Here (homepages.xnet.co.nz) is a tutorial I did which works, you need another comp with a CD writer and a Windows XP cd as well as a blank cd though
