520966 2007-01-31 02:32:00 Hi all

I am thinking about ditching my tower case and replacing it with a desktop case.

Requirements would be:

Quiet with a good reliable PSU
Full size with plenty of room for expansion (so I can transfer my current rig into it)
Looks good

Thats about it.

Oh...and good price :D

Does anyone have any suggestion or experiences to pass on to me before I seriously look at what's available?

Cheers.

520967 2007-01-31 04:41:00 How many PCI / E devices are u using, as a desktop case may not have enough slots, well not as much as a tower.

And usually desktop cases don't have that many front bays either. Or space for more than 1 hdd.

520968 2007-01-31 04:50:00 PCI/E would max at 5 and 1 x optical drive and 3 x hard drives to transplant.

There are desktop cases which cover this - was hoping someone here may have had experience with some.

Ta.

520969 2007-01-31 04:53:00 Any case made to the ATX spec will have sufficient expansion slots for PCI / E devices, thats the whole point of the ATX spec ;)

Antec make some nice cases, they have a few desktops in their range. A nice bonus is that the standard PSU is pretty good quality.

Its more difficult to cool desktop cases, and there might not be enough room for your 3 harddrives.

Was a bit more than I was hoping to spend but if the PSU is good quality then it is probably not a bad price all up.
