520498 2007-01-30 01:49:00 I have two HDDs - A & B.

A contains XP and is bootable. B is partitioned as two logical and one storage partitions.

I intend to disable A and install Vista on B as my main HDD.

When I enable A again, will there be a conflict due to an existing MBR on A?

520500 2007-01-30 02:42:00 Just make sure B is the first HDD in the boot-up list. decibel (11645)
520501 2007-01-30 05:05:00 If you disable the first drive this will fail. Vista uses a new, different boot loader from XP but Vista should be able to dual-boot with XP just fine.

I would back up all the stuff on the first drive and simply try to install Vista on the second drive with both still plugged in. Hopefully this way the Vista installation will install its boot manager on the first drive and be able to boot both operating systems. Make sure you have a full version and not an upgrade of Vista or it won't work.

It CAN, install XP and then install Vista, that way Vista will pick up the XP install and set the boot loader up automatically, it works, I have done it The_End_Of_Reality (334)
