| 520446 | 2007-01-29 20:46:00 | Hi all. I am having a problem with my internet connection, and am hoping someone can help me. This started a few months ago. My internet just started going really slow all of a sudden, and my downloads were corrupt (all sites, all countries). I tried different computers (running mac, linux, and win), different routers, and different phone jacks around the house to eliminate the possibility of it being my hardware. I emailed Xtra, and they did tests and changes, and when I said that it was still a problem (and I had told them about me testing my hardware) they emailed me this: Every element that contributes to the ADSL connection has been changed at > our end. This includes your Broadband plan, profile and the physical port at > the exchange. Your line has also been investigated and no faults have been > found. Furthermore, we haven't had any other customer reporting of such > problems on the network. We therefore do not believe the problem to be at > our end and strongly suggest you check you hardware and firewalls. In some > instances, the security on the computer or the router can lag the connection > as it takes very long to filter and apply rules to every incoming packet. > These applications can be enough to cause data corruption. I started thinking it might be the internal wiring in my house, but then someone I know said tcp should stop corrupt data happing if there is a bad connection. Now I don't know what to think. Telecom won't send someone out unless they suspect there's something wrong with my phone line, and I can't figure out what else it could be. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Simon |

He replaced it, that fixed it. Or you have Nvidia firewall installed, (part of a mobo's hardware) which is known to corrupt downloads. |

| 520450 | 2007-01-29 23:13:00 | None of the computers have a firewall set up on them. The router has a firewall on it, but, as I said, I have tried several routers, and not all of them had firewalls on them. | sparq (4550) | ||
