520545 2007-01-30 22:19:00 Yes I had to buy one recently as my old one failed. Its a Viewsonic VX922 19" and I have WinXP Home.
Cheers.

520546 2007-01-31 01:37:00 I still need a case that is quiet when running including power supply. If anyone knows a good one?
Still not sure on the video card with all the GT’s and GS’s but as it’s the easiest to upgrade it won’t matter much.
I expect I should get the best CPU I can afford as in 3 years you probably won’t be able to get a 775 socket CPU to upgrade too.
I know I’m not playing cutting edge games but in 5 years time a good computer bought now will still be adequate for Windows 2012 (or Ubunta) I am not sure on a silent case.

The GTs are better than the equiv GSes... eg 7600GT beats a 7600GS

Yes, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that socket 775 will still be aroiund new...

Ha, don't fool your self there, judging between XP and Vista no way, my Mums PC which was brought 6 months to a year after XP came out and it can NOT run Vista, it is far to far below the min specs

Cheers. You can only run XP if you have an additional licence or possibly if the old PC does not use it anymore you can PH MS and they might give you another key, but I am not sure on this, I doubt it...

520547 2007-01-31 02:59:00 Thanks, I will be tossing the old PC.
I have pretty much got everything selected except the case. I want one that is reasonably quiet as it will be in the lounge and I want to watch TV on the monitor. I though the Icute S901-5G1-BB would be good because it has a "large 12" slow running fan. " Would that case be ok if I picked a good power supply to install in it?
Thanks

Any case is OK so long as you use a decent PSU.
www.overclockers.co.nz - lots of cases with lots of fans.

BTW why did you change the Ram to Corsair? Corsair are not known for being for the budget minded.

520549 2007-01-31 07:52:00 Thanks I will have a look at the Overclockers site. Yes I'm a bit torn between buying the best and what I can afford. I've changed the RAM to 2GB of Adata at $320.00
Cheers
