520492 2007-01-29 23:03:00 I was trying to download a 2.1 gb file with firefox. I join a java chatroom only to find when I tried to quit that it froze up my browser and eventually crashing it (taking the download with it). I have 958mb .part file on my desktop and would like to resume the download. I tried Wackget but that just downloaded an empty .exe each time and not the file. The download in the firefox manager just froze, not letting me pause or anything so I cancelled it.

Any help would be great, I don't fancy downloading this again.

520493 2007-01-29 23:42:00 I don't think u can do anything about it.

Whatever the site was it may not resume downloads. In which case, what u were getting would have to start again.

Or maybe something/someone deleted the file.

520494 2007-01-30 00:11:00 depends where you got the file from.
FTP clients (like filezilla) should be able to resume the file (dont ask me how)

Or wget with linux should also manage it
wget -c [filename]

520495 2007-01-30 20:58:00 A download manager such as Flashet may be able to resume the file (provided the site supports resuming). But you'd need to rename it from a .part file to .jc! (I think) for Flashget to pick it up.

Of course, there is no guarantee it will work and may start all over again. :waughh:

520496 2007-01-31 00:54:00 For future reference, you should always use some sort of download manager when downloading large files (I'd consider large anything over 200Mb). Web browsers can stuff larger files up, and also, in the event of a browser crash, you can lose everything you've started to download.

You could try this, may work, may not...

520497 2007-01-31 02:37:00 Well download managers may help, but if the site you're downloading from doesn't support resuming, getting a dl manager will be pointless.

As the dl will restart (if u crash or u stop it ), with or without a dl manager.

And some sites will refuse to download files when you're using a dl manager.
