521871 2007-02-02 08:41:00 im about to buy a new laptop and it will be equiped with an OEM version of vista. my question is that will most of my current programs and aps run with this new OS? i would tell them to stick with xpp but the laptop itself comes pre equiped with vista business and i would miss out on an copy of vista if i tell them to install the xpp.

i have all these little programs and aps that will be neccessary for work and the capability to recognise simp chinese is also essential.

any ideas?

521872 2007-02-02 08:45:00 Have you run the windows vista upgrade advisor yet it will tell you if your pc can run it, having said that if your pc is new and vista is preinstalled then you should have no problems.

go to microsoft .com and download windows vista upgrade advisor if you wish.

521873 2007-02-02 08:47:00 Recognising Simplified Chinese will be no problem.

As per what Hitech said, download the upgrade advisor and run it to check. www.microsoft.com

I have Vista Ultimate, and have found that 99% of my apps run fine.

521874 2007-02-02 08:50:00 yea it is a fresh system and vista is pre installed, the laptop will run it no problem, the question is that will majority of programs i used to use still work with vista? cause i got this program (stock marketing) which basically is the foundation of my job, i need to know if my new laptop will be capable to run this, abd btw it is in simp chinese. kingping (11473)
521875 2007-02-02 08:50:00 I have Vista Ultimate, and have found that 99% of my apps run fine.
And the ones that dont work will probably be fixed before long. Windows Vista WILL become the standard (sooner or later) and they wont want to be left behind

521876 2007-02-02 09:00:00 Somebody when you installed vista ultimate did vista automatically do a microsoft update to see if it needed any drivers for the programs you run, i have been told it can do this. Hitech (9024)
521877 2007-02-02 09:03:00 drivers? there are drivers for programs now?
i thought drivers were (edit) FOR hardware
Dannz (1668)
521878 2007-02-02 09:07:00 Drivers have always been software i download them when i get hp alerts from hp support, come into the real world dannz. Hitech (9024)
521879 2007-02-02 09:07:00 hitech: It automatically downloaded updated drivers for my hardware (with the exception of the printer, which I forgot to plug in). Software issues are Notepad++ and Cashbook Complete.

kingping: Run the upgrade advisor on YOUR current pc running WinXP (or whatever), and it will tell you whether or not your software apps are compatible, and what to do if they're not (eg. updates).

521880 2007-02-02 09:15:00 Is it true that the OEM version of vista home premium is the full version, cause i am aware that the home premium upgrade isnt the full version. Hitech (9024)
