521901 2007-02-07 20:48:00 A friend of mine asked me today what difference does it make if a retailer sells an OEM edition of vista with another product, and why cant the OEM edition not be sold seperately.

This isn't quite accurate... you can still buy an OEM Version of Vista (www.pp.co.nz) (Home Premium in this example). The difference is that you can only use an OEM version on one machine PERIOD. Microsoft have a strict definition of what "one machine" means too... I believe if you replace the motherboard in your machine then it is technically a new machine and therefore you'll need a new windows (new CD Key)... but upgrading RAM and CPU or HDD means you can use the same CD Key - or so I believe anyways... feel free to correct me

And by saying "one machine" I mean one machine PERIOD, end of story... as opposed to using it on one machine, formatting then using the install on another machine (as per the non-OEM version)

521903 2007-02-08 01:12:00 Murray P's advice is consistent with the two 'experts' who were interviewed by Jim Mora yesterday afternoon (Wed 7 Feb) on National Radio. You can get access to the interview (which is 26mins long) on www.radionz.co.nz ('experts' is in quotes because I don't know their credentials for the statements they were making, and not to imply that Murray P is less than the authoritative source that he is...) The relevant section of the programme is called Virtual World.

I think the section about Vista was later in the interview, and I didn't hear it all, but basically they were saying that there are more negatives than positives to using Vista for most punters, and that people should wait and wait before installing it.

I am pretty sure it was on that interview that I heard it said that iTunes doesn't work with Vista, and there is a spat going on between Jobs and Gates over it. So if using iTunes is important to you, it may be an idea to check this out.
