522216 2007-02-03 10:53:00 CutePDF Writer (http://www.cutepdf.com/)works well too. I've used it several times. Free. Mackin_NZ (6958)
522217 2007-02-03 12:50:00 There's nothing wrong with OOo, it's more Words in-built incompatibility that is at issue. I'd give OOo a try, but test the imported docs.

PDF reDirect is very good. There is free and paid version, but combined with OOo, I've yet to feel the need to splash out for the paid version. PDF reDirect has the added advantage, of a free version, of being able to make PDFs up from disparate documents. There are no watermarks or advertising on the copy BTW. I ditched Cute PDF for PDF reDirect.

BTW, the defualt OOo export to PDF does not have the option to alter compression, add tags, choose zip or JPEG, as image, etc. Have a dig around and add the "Export as PDF" button which does include thos options (the default is called "Export directly to PDF").

Edit: Winmacguy, wash ya filthy mouth out fella. OOo has supported PDF creation for a number of years now. ooh, shiny.

You just "print" to the AdobePDF printer, which you'll see in the normal print dialog.

522222 2007-02-04 07:48:00 For those using a *nix, it is easy to convert Word docs to PDF using a script from the wv library (http://wvware.sourceforge.net/). This is the same utility used by Abiword (and OO.org?) to do conversions. There are other utilities available - e.g., conversions to mime, html etc. vinref (6194)
