522080 2007-02-03 04:19:00 I've recently bought a second hand Asus K8N Motherboard and a Athlon64 3200+,
being an ideal upgrade kit. I took all the step-by-step instructions in the manual to install my new system, but when i pushed the ON switch.. the fans spun up, on the CPU, and Graphics card.. but there was no POST on the screen. I checked all my connections again, everything was fine. All the right power connections were made, i cleared the cmos jumper a few times. But when i tried starting it up again, the fans spun. but that was about it, no beeps, nothing on the screen.

the guy who sold it to me says hes never had any problems with it. Hes upgraded to conroe and dosent need that board and CPU any more. and the board dosent seem to be physically defective in any way.

Any ideas what to do? whats causing this?

the hardware that i was testing on the board is:

Athlon64 3200+ skt 754
AGP6600gt
1GB PMI Ram,
300Watt Aluminium PSU, Hyena.
Skt 754 Nforce3 250 ASUS K8N MB.
Stock AMD cooler.

Just need some help getting my board up and working!
Thanks in advance

522081 2007-02-03 04:26:00 Did u connect the ATX (2x2 pin thing) connection from the PSU to the mobo too?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
522082 2007-02-03 04:28:00 hey, thanks for the super speedy reply!!
Yes. I have plugged in 4pin ATX 12V in. I have also tried it with different monitors.
And i also put my 9600xt in it. still no luck.

could it be the bios?

522083 2007-02-03 04:37:00 Hyena PSU's are crap and a 300 Watt one is probably not gonna have enough juice to power that setup - you could borrow and try a better PSU if you can't get it working with other methods...

ie: disconnect everything and remove all PCI cards except the bare minimum required to run post and reset the bios with the bios reset jumper (or remove battery for a few minutes) just in case

522084 2007-02-03 04:41:00 Hmm well I've got exactly the same mobo here (not using it tho), but its never been used, as I never got around to getting the ram/cpu for it.

Shouldn't be the BIOS. If you've taken the jumper off to reset the CMOS.

Make sure the ram is in properly so the sides of the slots click.

So, both the AGP and the 9600 don't work?

Altho Hyena aren't exactly the best PSU's around. Maybe the PSU isn't good enough? Being 300W?

Was only 1 videocard in the case when you tried to get it to work?

Disconnect all drives.
Swap the RAM with another.
Swap the PSU with another.
Swap Graphics with another.

Either way get rid of the Hyena - they fail often and when they do they have a nasty habit of taking the other components out with it.

522086 2007-02-03 04:46:00 Sorry, didn't see where you'd already tried clearing CMOS. Agent_24 (57)
522087 2007-02-03 04:59:00 wow, thanks again, for the super quick replys . . Speedy, Agent, and PCtek,

Well, i actually tried everything last night . . yeah, i tried my new 6600gt and old 9600xt, both yield the same result . the fan spins, no led lights up . no signal on the screen . i've tried another brand of ram, 512 stick of PMI ddr400, correctly seated .

Yep, i've tried taking everything out, i tried running the board with no hdd, no dvd, no pci cards etc . but they all have the same result!

it might be the power supply not dishing enough watts . I have tried running a PC company 250Watt power supply, but it does the same thing . the board wont POST .

yeah, the board has no physical damage, no capacitor has come off or anything .
and all fans spin, even the one of the 6600gt and 9600xt .

522088 2007-02-03 05:03:00 Get a higher PSU as in 400W+ from someone. Not lower. Then try it again. Speedy Gonzales (78)
522089 2007-02-03 05:04:00 I'm going to borrow a 400watt power supply from a work computer tonight, i'll see how it will work. i'll keep you helpful people posted : )
hopefully this could make my new investment work!
