| 522001 | 2007-02-02 21:36:00 | I downloaded the upgrade adviser and it said my Norton Internet Security 2005 (Symantec Corporation) must be uninstalled first. I'm sure a lot of people here use Norton, so when can we expect to see 99% of everyday programs compatible with Vista? Norton wasn't the only thing it said wasn't compatible either. It even said Help and Support wasn't compatible. On a side note, what's Sonic DLA? Whatever it is, it's on my laptop and it isn't compatible with Vista.. |

I'm sure a lot of people here use Norton Ah No. There's a lot of posts in here, saying its a memory/resource hog. It doesn't matter what version of NIS you use, or AV. And most ppl use something better like Avast/AVG/Nod32 etc. And a better firewall. Anything like NIS 2005 is really out of date. And most of the HJT logs I've seen in here, for ppl who are using it. They still get infected with something nasty. so when can we expect to see 99% of everyday programs compatible with Vista? Norton wasn't the only thing it said wasn't compatible either. It even said Help and Support wasn't compatible. I would say most programs will be ok in Vista, its the drivers u have to worry about. On a side note, what's Sonic DLA? Whatever it is, it's on my laptop and it isn't compatible with Vista.. Thats some kind of CD burning program isnt it?? I would check the sites to whatever program you're using now. They've most probably updated whatever program, so they'll be compatible with Vista. |

Not too sure if Comodo is Vista compat, I'll have to have a look . I would recommend Zonealarm, but I think in order to use extra features in it, you have to pay for it / register it . These are all free . I dont know the diff between the free and the paid versions of AVG and Avast tho . Most probably just a few extras in the paid versions . |

Unless u get NIS 2007 which is most probably just as bad as previous versions (2003 - 06) . They install too much crap . And can slow a system down . (read some of the posts in here about NIS or the AV (especially NIS), you'll see what I mean . Whatever version you get (of NIS), may not make any difference, but the size and whether it slows your system down, after its installed does . And Nortons is just a bloated bit of software . If I was gonna get one of the free ones, do they have firewalls too? And would the free version of Zonealarm be better than the others you said? Some do, some don't have firewalls . The links I gave u are only AV programs I think not firewalls . Altho, AVG does have a separate site where u can get the AV and firewall, but I don't think its free, after so long . Zonealarm I think is ok, but it installs too much crap too, and like NIS, it can also stop its proxy service frequently . And when it stops u can't browse the net, until u restart this service . It got too annoying for me, and I removed it . |
