522787 2007-02-05 02:47:00 I have Win 98 SE and I've lost all my bookmarks and it's not the first time it's happened.

Could someone tell me where to find them and also recommend another internet platform other than Firefox please.

Many thanks
Wendy :dogeye:

522788 2007-02-05 03:19:00 They don't just vanish all by themselves. Did you use a cleaner tool? Or delete something accidentally?

Firefox stores your personal settings, such as the bookmarks, cache and web form data, in a profile folder.
On Windows XP/2000, the path is usually %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.defaul t\, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters. Just browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and the rest should be obvious.

Also you can download a program called MozBackup which will backup the lot, emails, bookmarks, address book etc etc to a location of your choice.
Try that too.

522789 2007-02-05 04:21:00 In Win98 I think the path is C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\ ... etc Antmannz (6583)

Actually they do vanish all by themselves:mad:
But I've solved the problem by downloading Opera:)

Thanx for your help:rolleyes:

522792 2007-02-05 06:48:00 That's what I hate about Firefox. When forcefully shut down (task manager, force restart) it may lose your bookmarks. Don't know why, but is annoying as hell, especially when it first happens as you don't know if you can get it back or not.

Other than that, Firefox is great. Haven't tried IE7 though.

Hope this helps :)

522794 2007-02-05 07:28:00 Same problem here, dont why it happens. It happened to me from Firefox ver1.0 to ver1.5.x.x . They vanish at the most unexpected times. Now days I just back up once every 2 weeks. CCF (6760)
522795 2007-02-05 09:20:00 Go Mozilla... it's a somewhat better browser/email package. Greg (193)
522796 2007-02-05 10:34:00 With regards to losing bookmarks, I've used the Foxmarks addon to sync bookmarks between my laptop and my desktop, but it has the added advantage of keeping a copy of your bookmarks in cyberspace. You can easily re-sync if you "lose" them :) davehartley (3487)
