522905 2007-02-06 07:29:00 Well why didn't I think of that? :waughh: With my laptop in the DMZ, it works perfectly.

Now, I guess I could leave it like that ... but I'd like to access school from both the laptop and the desktop. And swapping the DMZ IP seems to be a bit of a fudge. Never mind a pain waiting for the router to reboot ...

Unless there's something I can do to enable VPN passthrough, I guess I'm looking at a new router?

522906 2007-02-06 08:32:00 You wouldn't want to leave the IP address in the DMZ anyway as it opens up the machine to the internet on all ports.
It must be the firewall / NAT in the router stopping the connection.
You will need to find out what ports your VPN software uses.

522907 2007-02-06 08:36:00 But, even then, I'll only be able to forward the ports to a single computer on my side of the router? So unless there's a firmware "fix," in order to get this going on any computer on my small LAN, I'm looking at a new router that has VPN Passthrough ... that right? davehartley (3487)
522908 2007-02-06 08:50:00 I haven't touched a DSL-500 for a while but can get hold of one to check.
I know with the old Nokia M1122 routers you could allow specific internet IP addresses (in your case 210.54.54.11) through the firewall without actually giving an IP address of a local machine. This way all machines on your network could get access.
Not sure if the DSL-500 allows this.
From memory there are firewall rules you can make.
Just having a look at the D-Link site now.

522909 2007-02-08 08:27:00 Ummm ... "Ooops!" :o

In an attempt to get VPN Passthrough going on my DSL-500, I decided to try the latest Australian firmware, as it seemed to be one that allowed VPN Passthrough. That, in itself, shouldn't have been a problem.

What I should have done was to make sure that my laptop wasn't going to turn itself off halfway through flashing the router :groan:

So now I have one lump of non-responding hardware. Anyone have any idea how to re-flash the flash memory with an image on one of these things? I have connected to it using HyperTerminal and the serial port, so there may be a glimmer of hope ...

... or I might just have to accept I've toasted it. (That makes it the first piece of hardware I've made inoperable ever )
