522828 2007-02-05 09:42:00 We have been backwards and forwards until we settled on this setup.

It is possible that someone could purchase this cheaper, including assembly, OS installation and freight. It is the best I can do however.

As said before a microATX mobo will fit in a standard case. All the mounting holes are there for each of the different size motherboards.

If anyone can then feel free to price up for a cheaper price - nothing in it for me.

Personally I like the Samsung monitors - but when you are building to a budget and have alreay exceeded it by $600 then you gotta stop somewhere!!

And it is 1x1GB stick of Ram. Seeing as how the motherboard has only two ram slots that leaves one slot free for upgrade later on. Of course we could also upgrade the motherboard or could go for 2x1GB sticks of Ram but there is that budget thing again.

522829 2007-02-05 09:43:00 That motherboard is for micro-atx cases [spec ( . asus . com/products4 . aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1200&l1=3&l2=11&l3=0" target="_blank">www . asus . com)] . I'm guessing you're using a m-atx case? Or do m-atx motherboards line up with normal atx screw holes?

I take it that this will be 2 x 512MB modules so you can run it in dual channel mode .

A micro ATX motherboard can be installed in a normal case .
All cases provide various riser holes for this reason .

A normal board cannot be put into a micro case though .

The RAM doesn't matter much either if its dual channel or not .
It makes some difference but not a huge difference .

522830 2007-02-05 09:47:00 $2000 is way too overpriced for that rig, i remember a friend building this exact setup with a AM2 X2 Dual Core 4200 instead of a E6300 for $1100, no monitor tho

So it was the exact setup with a cheaper CPU. And all the other components were the same brands and models? And it included the operating system, assembly, OS installation and freight to the South Island?

Bargain.

surely if one cpu is amd and the other is intel then the mother board will also be different

If I wasn't making every attempt not to be a smart arse this week I would probably have said..

THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, THE WORLD HAS BEEN SAVED

.......Still, I shall refrain.

522833 2007-02-05 10:32:00 you easily could do better for much less than $1900

why 250GB? 320 is better value for money
why ddr533?

good to see you went for the 7600gt, currently that card is right in the sweet spot for performance vs. cost

what are you doing for case and power supply?

just call your isp/telecom and ask how far from the exchange you are, but how busy the exchange is, line quality, weather, planetary alignment etc will also affect speeds

and why vista? i'd wait a while yet, you wont need dx10 for atleast 2 years yet unless you really want to play halo3. if i was to get vista i'd get the ultimate edition anyway - why only get half the system?

522834 2007-02-05 15:04:00 Your computer wont be fast enough for ADSL2, you need for megahurtz in the toaster. Jams (1051)

Which is probably why SuperCheap did so well for so long. All the people that just want cheap without worrying about quality or after sales service.

I think you might've missed the part where I said I'M ALREADY $600 OVER MY ORIGINAL BUDGET.

As for why go Vista - why not? If I'm building a new computer then why not put a new os in it?

As for ultimate vs home premium, the only thing ultimate has over home premium are:

Protect against hardware failure
with Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore

Easier business networking connectivity
with Networking Center and Remote Desktop

Better protect your data
against loss with Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption

Which isn't much.
