522975 2007-02-05 21:39:00 I am dual booting Vista and XP (both on separate drives). All works well except I cannot get the Xtra Jetstream to work on Vista.

I'm loading the program before connecting the USB modem as instructed. I see that the program when loading points to C: but I cannot successfully point it to and activate in the Vista HDD G: (a separate drive to C:).

Anyone got any ideas please?

Bryan.

522977 2007-02-05 22:34:00 Hi Bryan,

Suspect the realistic options may be:

1/ From the Modem vendor - can they supply Vista drivers for your device?

2/ Use a Modem/router that connects via Ethernet (assuming the PC has a network card).

522978 2007-02-05 22:34:00 Xtra used a Alcatel Speedtouch ADSL modem. The phone line is connected into it and a USB lead goes into the computer. The modem is activated by software. It's just a small palm sized unit that worked very well under XP.

So now I have problems!

522979 2007-02-06 00:54:00 My vista's internet connection works without installing additional drivers so I do not know what's wrong in your case. msnforum (11610)
522980 2007-02-06 01:17:00 Does it not have any Ethernet ports?

If it only has USB ports, then you will have to wait for them to release Vista drivers here
www.speedtouch.com

You could try using the Windows XP drivers.

522981 2007-02-06 01:25:00 Have you got a wireless router and a usb adaptor once you have those two things your'e away. Hitech (9024)
522982 2007-02-22 23:12:00 FYI the ADSL router you have at this time does not support Vista x32 or x64 (speedtouch.co.nz) IMHO I would suggest buying an Ethernet Router as stated by Martnz - Just pick up a cheap one 2nd hand and you'll be surfing in no time! Joel (11862)
522983 2007-02-23 11:48:00 Yup, USB has always been more problematical than ethernet when connection to a network (the net in this instance).

XP is pretty mature now, but USB still relies on the OS/software. Ethernet just works. Probably the easiest thing to do and without having to step outside your door or spend $$, is put Vista aside until its working properly, i,e, go back to XP for a while.

As an aside, a pox on Xtra and any other ISPs who dump USB modems on customers.
