522658 2007-02-04 20:27:00 Howdy,

I want to turn off simple file sharing in XP Home but when I go into Folder Options>View, I scroll down and there is no "Use simple file sharing" checkbox to untick.

Any suggestions?

XP Home is the "dumbed down" version.
Next to no networking features (can't join domains etc).

522662 2007-02-04 21:39:00 Right, I see, thought I had read somewhere else that I could, but musta got confused.

I have installed Vista, but just testing it at the mo, still want to keep XP Home on my other drive, so if I use Vista to alter the permissions on folders on the XP drive, will that screw them up from within XP?

522664 2007-02-04 21:58:00 Vista is OK, although I always have trouble with dual boots cos I have an IDE drive and an SATA drive and the bios always defaults to booting from the SATA and Vista installs its bootloaders on the IDE, unless I unplug the IDE but then it doesn't find the other OS so I can't boot it. stevesumner (4849)
522665 2007-02-04 22:38:00 XP Home used to have an option to disable simple file sharing but it no longer does. I believe it still can be done via changing a registry settings but can't say I have had the need to find out what it is. Google would be a good start. berryb (99)
522666 2007-02-04 22:57:00 Yes, I discovered via google that you can view the security tab in safe mode logged on as administrator, you can also use cacls command in dos when logged on to XP:

www.microsoft.com
