| 522545 | 2007-02-04 05:06:00 | So i put my 2GB A-Data "my flash" usb flash drive into my mates computer to get some files, as i have done in the past, but it didn't work and his xp said there was a power surge on a usb port due to a device. we tried the other usb port to same message, then tried the rear i/o panel ports and got loud beeping from the case/mobo speaker. the flash drive didn't smell to flash:yuck: so i tried it on my pc, nothing happened, i tried it elsewhere to no luck, then found my USB mouse had died. the mouse works on other computers, and i am now using a PS/2 mouse. device manager and everest both report no issues with any hardware at all. so any ideas? i don't want to reinstall as my files were backed up on the flash drive. was it a virus or faulty flash drive? is it possible my motherboard has been permanently damaged?:horrified |

| 522547 | 2007-02-04 05:30:00 | I doubt that it wld have blown your USB ports, just by plugging it in.Reboot See what happens. The USB ports on the other pc may have been screwed if there was a power surge. Reboot that too see if it works then. Try unplugging your usb devices and plug them in again. Was your pc on the same power supply? |

| 522548 | 2007-02-04 06:57:00 | believe me, i have rebooted many times in the process of finding a mouse. his computer said that the usb device caused a surge in/on the usb plug on his computer. my computer is across the road from his. the usb drive, and both usb mice i have tried do not work on my computer, but the mice do work on other machines. i won't try the usb drive on another machine until i find the source of this issue no viruses |

| 522549 | 2007-02-04 07:18:00 | Well I doubt you have a driver problem. I'd say the USB drive is dead - can't see how it could have caused the probl;em - more likely your mates PC killed the USB drive........... |
