523758 2007-02-13 02:07:00 You have to untick the 'Hide Protected Operating System Files' option as well.

Do you have your XP CD? You could boot into recovery console (like dos) and run fixboot

523759 2008-02-07 00:45:00 Not sure if this is but, the Bios and RAM might be setup for windows vista now, you may need to reset ur Bios or start your computer up without the ram in once, then the second boot put the RAM in. try doing this when your trial is out! tupaloops (11875)
523760 2008-02-07 01:02:00 if you installed Vista without the XP drive attached,then booted into Vista, even after reattaching the XP drive Vista shouldn't have changed the Boot.ini.
If you had the XP drive connected when installing Vista it would have changed it, so you can boot into either XP or Vista.

If the Vista Drive is still connected, you need to change the boot order, other wise its trying to boot Vista, Not XP.

I do this almost every day, have a Vista PC as one of the workshop PC's, attach a customers Drive ( XP) as a slave to clean and sometimes copy data, and it NEVER changes the XP boot.ini Vista Sees XP as a slave drive- nothing more.

RAM has nothing to do with what OS boots first.

Heres what the boot.ini should look like for a XP with no other OS:

Sample Boot.ini File
This is a sample of a default Boot.ini file from a Windows XP Professional computer.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
