523194 2007-02-07 02:18:00 Hi duckgoesoink, I am currently using the laptop that Rob99 was referring to in the DSE web page (Z92T). I am surprised at that $2100, ASUS has even managed to pop in a dedicated 256MB graphics card (it isn't clearly stated in the web page) plus a Lightscribe DVD-RAM drive. These two features would certainly come in handy, since you are a graphics designer and may want to create a gift CD.

Cheers :)

)
Yes it is but not the core2duo

Yeah it seems most have 128mb graphics so I'll keep an eye out for 256. The Lightscribe drive sounds cool, but I can't imagine what the finish on the disc is like.

523199 2007-02-07 22:54:00 I also have to recommend Asus. Apart from premature battery wear, which the local agents happily agreed to replace, our two year old machine has been faultless. It's only got a Celeron 2.93 CPU, but it handles multitasking of some pretty hard-going stuff.

And I specially love the manual, with its decent English.

523200 2007-02-07 23:48:00 I would go for a Toshiba over a ASUS anyday thank-you, ASUS maybe good motherboard/Graphic card manufacturers, but they are NOT system builders. Especially if you want global support.

edit - Oh, and stay away from the likes of DSE & Harvey Norman

Hmm that's interesting. Is it true that Toshiba notebooks need a specific type of RAM (different from normal notebook stuff)? I've just heard that rumour floating around, no clue if it's true or not.

Also, why stay away from DSE and Harvey Norman? I'm very curious now..

I have never heard of spec RAM for Toshiba, but that dosnt make it true, but if upgrading RAM, I would normally go via manufacturer recommendation anyway.

As for HN & DSE, their hardware is 1-2 years old mostly, they dump old stock. Their salesman know swat, and their advice is little better. However this is just IMHO.
