523906 2007-02-08 11:05:00 Well, this is the first annoying thing I've encountered about Vista. By clicking on the Start Menu and 'Start Search' - results are obtained from ALL users on the PC, EVEN if the user accounts are password protected.

Not only that, all 'administrator' accounts are able to access each other's account folders through the 'Users' folder.

Now, does anybody know how to resolve these issues?

I would like for the search function of Vista only retrieve results from the current user's folder and other folders but anyone else's user folders.

523907 2007-02-08 11:26:00 I do not mean to sound dismissive in regards to your problem but just out of interest take a look at this issue that are still currently bugging other vista users.

I really hope that you have not gone out and brought this buged out hackable piece of Microsoft. It has been the same with every release windows has ever made. Wait 5 years and they finally get it semi right and then they go and change it again. Hm go figure. I guess old bills pockets where feeling a bit empty.

Any way I hope you find a solution to your problem

523908 2007-02-08 11:42:00 The same as all WIndows? Hell no. My Windows XP administrator account will not retrieve results from the user accounts' folders.

And this is frankly annoying me. Can anyone help me here?

523909 2007-02-08 11:57:00 NTFS permissions!

Vista ONLY installs on NTFS, so just modify the permissions on each users folder so that only creator / owner has FULL ACCESS, remove all other entries and it presumes "deny".

Cheers

Chill.

523910 2007-02-08 12:11:00 Should really be the default though shouldn't it.

I tend to agree with the Capitan too, leave it at least a year before you rush out and get Vista, hell there might even be more than a handful of games made for it by then.

523911 2007-02-08 17:58:00 Well, this isn't cool....WinXP didn't have this problem. Looks like Microsoft spent so much time working on the security of networking and internet, but left out the fact that a criminal can get a hold of your computer.

So, really, do I have to live with this?

Oh,Chilling Silence, I can't do this because my big brother wants the same privileges as I do and will get all worked up if I limited his administrator access. If only there was a specific permission for it.

Administrator a/c is god, he see's ALL files on the pc, whether or not our user accounts are password protected or not!

Turn your user accounts to limited as they should be!

If you want privacy, but still have admin rights, put encryption on the user doc's for each account from the user setup page
