524494 2007-02-13 11:47:00 Ive had this old Barton Core AMD 2500+ for quite some time now, since 2004, and after all the overclocking ive done with it etc, i think its given up the ghost. This is still pretty odd though, as ive never overclocked it over a 2800+, and I know these bartons can do 3200+

The problems im getting now are varied however, when I load a program, or write to a HDD CPU load races to 100% I tried a virus, and spyware check, and it doesnt seem to be that.

I did however downgrade my PSU after my enermax blew up. Could it be not getting enough juice?

I dunno if this is the right place to post, but any help would be awesome.

524495 2007-02-14 08:38:00 Greetings & Welcome to PressF1!

I would be inclined to boot a Live Linux CD to make sure its not just your OS.. could be a bit of a waste of a perfectly decent CPU if you were to throw it out :(

524496 2007-02-14 08:46:00 When was the last time you did a fresh re-install of windows?
When did you last do maintenance like cleaning temp files and registry crud?
When did you last defrag after that?

If you don't want it, try selling it online. You might some dosh for it. :D

524497 2007-02-15 03:40:00 Doubt you cooked it by only overclocking it to 2800+ specs, what vcore were you running? Ive had a 2100+ running at 2.3GHz for the last 3yrs and its still going hard. Stress test it with Prime95 if that doesn't fail then chances are its not the CPU. What PSU did you "downgrade" to? Pete O'Neil (6584)
524498 2007-02-16 05:51:00 Sorry for the late reply, the PSU is some ****ty stock one I got when I bought the comp, a "Max Power" i think.

The boys at ascent are really nice, and are RMAing the enermax back to the factory, (setting me back $40 though ><)

Im going to try a reformat, hopefully that solves the problem. But before that ill do a defrag.

Thanks for the help all.
