524399 2007-02-13 06:31:00 My home network currently runs the following

Xbox/PS2/Laptop/Home PC thru a Wireless Linksys Router(using a combination of Wired and wireless cards) which all connect to the internet no problems :)

What I REALLY would like to add is a external HDD to the network, prefferably via the LAN network. Then I can move all the wifes photo's/music, my games etc to this new HDD. Found a 60gig external HDD for a nice price, however it uses the USB2.0.

My question is this

Can I connect a cheap wireless USB adaptor to the External HHD that then connects to the router, and is available on my network?

524400 2007-02-13 06:39:00 Hi, nice try but no, you need a NAS device (network attached storage) which has an ethernet port to plug into the router WITH its security. SolMiester (139)
524401 2007-02-13 06:46:00 Guess I'll need to find a crappy spec, huge HDD pc(under $100) and use my last wireless card on it.

Thanxs Solmiester

524402 2007-02-13 07:39:00 You know that you can always buy more wireless cards right? I mean its not like we're running out of them or cost a bomb :D beeswax34 (63)

524404 2007-02-13 10:58:00 I have seen WLAN 2.5" hard drive enclosures but this probably doesn't help as you would need to buy it and a notebook hdd. CYaBro (73)
524405 2007-02-14 05:06:00 that NAS drive looks very slick and just what i was looking for. Now to convince my wife how vitally vitally important a conponent it is :D Smash King (11883)

No hdd included. It looks nice, I am very tempted. That does look interesting. I see it is limited to a FAT32 format and therefore its maximum 4 gig individual file size limit. I wonder what the security is like on that if you had it open to FTP access apart from the standard username/password control?
