524283 2007-02-13 03:43:00 I have a video of a musical performance that was transferred to DVD and need to make some copies of it. No copyright issues. My DVD burner wouldn't cope with DVD -R, so my brother-in-law did a few copies on his computer using Nero, but the picture quality, particularly the colours, and the sound quality (the most crucial bit) are noticeably worse than on the original. He wasn't using any compression on the copy.
What causes loss of quality when copying - software, DVD disks, drive, XP? And does anyone know any software that would do copies as good as the original? Preferably free, but prepared to pay
Thanks

524284 2007-02-13 03:52:00 nero should have made a 1-to-1 copy, And is (imo) the best software you can get, so Im gonna say its user error. Metla (12)
524285 2007-02-13 03:52:00 Where's the original video that you burned to DVD??

How good was the original video??

If it wasn't that good before it was burned to DVD, it won't make any diff after.

It'll come out the same. Does the sound on the DVD sound / look like its out of sync?

524287 2007-02-13 03:58:00 Speedy - the person who owns the camera downloaded the clips somehow onto DVD, I couldn't get a good description of the process involved. However the DVD I was given is of good enough quality, it's the home copies that aren't so flash.
I will look into the whole Nero/ANYDVD thing and maybe get a trial copy (and a new DVD burner)
