2007-02-13 00:28:00 | over the past 2 weeks i have seen the random disconnections stop, web pages load instantly. and my downloads went from 20kbps to between 50-80kbps now, which is a huge improvement. when i use download accelerator i get about 100kbps now. It is certainly faster now. It is not as fast as when i was on the old xtra plans where i was getting 400kbps,but at least they are finally fixing it properly. anyone else seeing improvement? | lance4k (4644) | |
2007-02-13 00:38:00 | Ah if u use something like a download accelerator, its most probably that, thats speeding things up, not Xtra. As most of those programs download files from more than 1 source. (which is what they're meant to do).

2007-02-13 04:11:00 | Hello guys/ladies I have something little to ad to this. Over the weekend(mainly nights) I wanted to download SUSE 10.2 DVD ISO. So I did it as torrent and for some of the time it went well. After I had downloaded more than half, the speed droped dramatically from about 50-70KB to less than 10KB. I did try all sorts of settings in the client without success. SO, I rang xtra and they could only tell that, wenn on GO LARGE there is a "cap" depending on traffic volumes. Well, I said, I was downloading outside the peak lines, that would not matter the phone support said. And that specific progs, speak P2P, are targeted as they would take to much resources. Later on I rang XTRA once more as I tested the same file through a download manager, both going at the same time! P2P on 2-3KB and the download manager on 75 to 80 KB. Have any of you guys had such experiences? Give them(..ra)heaps! (By the way SUSE looks promising) G

2007-02-13 04:47:00 | I was having similar problems as the original poster. I rang xtra who after running some tests sent me out a new modem package telling me to replace everything. I did but one at a time. It ended up being the filters that made the difference. Now I'm back to good speeds with no disconnections.

| 524200 | 2007-02-13 05:32:00 | Traffic volumes?. so your saying a 5mb files speed will be greater than 10 mb file?. No that's not what I am saying it comes from XTRA helpline!! The reason will be that they feel out of pocket(if we would have an open top)!! Also they(XTRA) are doing it's best on selling it without having the pipe to supply it. It was a no end arguing with the helpline as the only thing they told me is; that they(helpline) could not help me, and, that they are keeping an eye on torrents and to bad if that would be the way I was downloading.
