2007-02-12 04:34:00 | About a week ago I went to a site which I won't mention here ( not a porn site ) and got attacked with viruses, trojans, malware etc. After cleaning my computer I decided to go back to said site and sure enought got them again. Most of them were pop up adds. One in particular would trick NAV into telling me I had the Bloodhound.Packed.10 virus and when you clicked on the more info message in the warning it would take you to symantics site, but as soon as you got there a pop would pop up telling you, you had to buy a certain virus program, not NAV. Another pop up would take me to Amaena.com wanting to buy certain software. Anyway I found these hard to get rid of until I entered amaena into google which told me I had the vundo trojan and I needed Vundofix to fix my problem. I downloaded this program and it found about a dozen dll files in my system 32 folder causeing these pop ups, and now I'm sqeaky clean again. You can also get a program from symantics site called fixvundo. BTW Adware,Spybot dosen't pick these up. I also ran housecall which picked up things that the others didn't. I hope this helps those that are having problems with pop-ups. Trevor :)

2007-02-13 01:49:00 | I've found Spybot to be excellent. Maybe some of the pay ones are better but for a free program - the guy should be congratulated. | pctek (84) | |

2007-02-13 03:25:00 | The AV that these redirects and pop-ups were trying to persuade you to buy wasn't AntVirens or one of several variations of that name, by any chance? | Murray P (44) | |

Although, they have just made a new world record of managing to find with their online scan 256 viruses and a C:\Windows directory on my Linux system. Talk about scam artists. If IE users find something dodgy when they visit that site pop up or download automatically, please let me know and I will remove that URL from being displayed. |

2007-02-13 04:33:00 | A couple of years ago I received an e-mail with an attachment from a friend. The attachment took you to a "joke site". All good and well and everything in the site looked quite kosher and I bookmarked it-yup silly sod! Anyway sometime down the track I accessed the bookmarked site to send a joke to a friend. I glanced to the right of the site and saw something like "adult". Naievely thinking they were just slightly raunchy jokes I clicked on it. Oh boy- not only was it a porn site but a blatant kiddie porn site-with the "daddy's" highlighted. What little detail there was to be seen was-well you get the picture. Another so-called joke site I looked at also turned out to be a porn site and the next thing I knew before backing out of the site was Norton telling me I had been zapped. Joke sites are just no joke at all unless you are aware beforehand that they are OK. MSN at one point had and "adult" site highlighted in red and this also turned out to be a porn site. I don't know if they have cleaned up their act as I have never again visited MSN for any reason. | Gordon62 (11771) | |
