| 525271 | 2007-02-16 20:59:00 | Hi all, I'm looking for a Linux guru to meet somewhere in Auckland to help me get set up. Anybody available? How much do you charge? TIA Al |

| 525272 | 2007-02-17 00:05:00 | What Distro are you looking to go with? I could give you the 64-bit SuSE and tell you a few extra repository details and you'd be set, no need for me to hang around If you wanted a hand like setting up LFS, THEN you'd need somebody to hold your hand... Just re-partition your HDD so there is some free UN-PARTITIONED space, drop in something like the latest OpenSuSE 10.2 and you'll be set! I'd offer my services, wouldnt charge, but I doubt you'd need me to come assist :) |

| 525273 | 2007-02-17 00:09:00 | There are a number of Linux User Groups in NZ, which might be helpful. Here's a link to the Auckland LUG (auckland.linux.net.nz/), which seems to have been "active" in Jabuary this year, although a Google search for "LUG Auckland" finds some comments from the Waikato on which might cast doubt on its existence. :D | Graham L (2) | ||

From memory she is the 'mother' of Auckland LUG and would be more than willing to point you in the right direction finding someone. I have to say, sort of like Chill- the actual setting up of something like Suse is not too hard as long as you install it on it's own HD... not partitioned and dual booting with XP, down that road you are almost sure to have problems as more than one of us on PF1 have found :( As long as things go alright and all your hardware is found it's a breeze  From there on I don't know what it's good for  |

| 525275 | 2007-02-17 02:48:00 | I have tried several distro's.....no problems with any of the hardware I've been using so far. My problems are with internet streaming media and using Chinese characters in file names. Games like WoW I'll figure out myself or dual boot for. I was hoping someone could see what I'm doing wrong..... Regards Al |

If I was I would be up before CYF for neglect lately :horrified . The Auckland LUG normally meets the first monday of every month for a presentation on varied Linux orientated topics, and everyone including absolute newbies are welcome. Regarding you current problems, did you install the appropriate Chinese language support? What type of streaming media files? |

The closest I came to success was with Mandriva 2007 URPMI'd everything (auto select for updates) URPMI'd all chinese font's I could find still no luck. Used Mplayer, could get it to play the music for about 5 seconds, then cut off. It was a Realplayer file. (Can't use the latest version of realplayer, or helixplayer. They both complain that it's an obsolete codec and that I should contact the website manager and tell him to change his file formats.) This is for my wife's Hong Kong radio station's archives. Thanks Al |

After being allmost exclusivly on MS systems I do struggle with the way things get installed. As a first I wanted to install the vmware tools and I have not quite got there yet. For any links to suse forums and support sites I would be very thankfull. Thanks G |
