525240 2007-02-16 18:49:00 Can anyone take a look at the following extract from Hijack this and see if there are any nasties hiding on my system please. I have a Packard Bell system with a P4 2.00GHz processor and 248MB RAM running Windows XP SP2. The system is very slow to load programmes and is slow to "multi task" e.g. won't scan while trying to type a word document. I have run Ad-Aware and Spybot as well as keeping my AVG up to date and they don't show any issues. Maybe I just need to buy some more RAM and install it?
Anyway here's the logfile:

248 mb isnt a lot when you're using XP. It could also be slow, coz of not enough ram.

I would also defrag if u haven't defragged yet.

And using Nortons wont help, its a memory hog, and can slow a system down. Especially if u haven't got a lot of ram installed.

You either didn't run Spybot or you have never updated it because it would have found the MyWebSearch stuff.

You should update both every time AdAware tells you the definition files are out of date.

And yes add more RAM. 512mb will be better.
Ditch Nortons.

Download and run CCleaner - both Run Cleaner - and then Issues - Scan for Issues. Run Issues until it no longer finds anything - it doesn't get it all on the first scan.

And if it still runs like a dog after you have done all that (it shouldn't) backup your stuff and do a fresh Windows install.
