525080 2007-02-16 03:44:00 Can anyone explain why I get lines like this down the screen in Windows , Desktop, Word, Excel, PhotoImpact etc. The colour varies depending on the background colour.

The lines don't print out on the printed page.

Is it my Computer or the Philips 180P2 LCD Monitor? Any ideas on how to correct it?

525081 2007-02-16 04:43:00 Give us a screenshot.

Could be the monitor or some problem with the graphics driver?

525082 2007-02-16 06:21:00 I can't get the screenshot to paste. I have it as a word document. Any ideas? Siobhan (6842)
525083 2007-02-16 06:26:00 You need to upload the screenshot in an image format such as .jpg (.jpeg). You can find instructions here (www.imagef1.net.nz) on how to take a screenshot and save it as an image, and then you can upload it using this (www.imagef1.net.nz). You will be given an URL on the website for your image that you can post back here with.

You cannot insert actual images into your posts, only give links to where they are on a website. :)

Does this do it?

525085 2007-02-17 03:23:00 Lost of things can cause this, most likely is damage to the monitor plug or cable, check for bent pins on the plug and wiggle the cord while watching the screen. skinnerjack1 (11413)
525086 2007-02-17 03:23:00 Overheating CPU or GPU. Open your computer and give it a good dust out.

If that dont sort it you will need to reseat the heat sinks on both with new thermal paste.

525087 2007-02-17 03:30:00 If your image was a screenshot taken using the PrintScreen key, then this has nothing to do with the monitor, as the lines must be in the video memory for them to show up in a screengrab. So it won't be a loose connection, the monitor plug, anything like that -- it'll be a problem with the driver or the video card. davehartley (3487)
525088 2007-02-17 03:48:00 Thank you, Dave Hartley. But where do i go from here re Driver and video Card? Siobhan (6842)
525089 2007-02-17 04:45:00 Does this happen in Safe Mode as well? Windows only uses a default and very basic video driver in Safe Mode so if you don't see the lines there, that suggests it is a driver problem as opposed to a hardware fault.

To get into Safe Mode, you need to start tapping the F8 key as it starts to boot up until you see a Menu. Use the arrows to select Safe Mode.
