524720 2007-02-14 23:39:00 My mother recently bought a new HP Pavilion, its the m7690n I think? And we can't get the resolution to increase past 1024x768, it has an nvidia graphics card, not on board, any suggestions? Spike19983 (9445)
524721 2007-02-14 23:47:00 I seem to remember reading somewhere that the display driver settings only let you pick resolutions that work with your installed monitor. Maybe something to look at?

I know in the Advanced settings of the Display Properties there's an option to hide resolutions the display can't handle.

524722 2007-02-14 23:50:00 I thought of that, but on her older computer, it let her go past 1024x768 Spike19983 (9445)
524723 2007-02-15 00:18:00 Do you have the correct monitor driver installed, or does it say 'generic monitor'?

I had that trouble, and had to download a new driver from the monitor manafacturer's website.

524724 2007-02-15 00:33:00 I doubt that its the monitor drivers.

Not all monitors have drivers, Windows will install the default drivers for them.

And you can still get a higher resolution above 1024x768.

It's most probably the videocard drivers, or the video card thats installed (whether it's onboard, PCI/PCI-E/AGP) can't go above 1024x768.

What does it show in properties / settings (right mouse on the desktop).

Does changing the slider (if there's a resolution above 1024x768) do anything?
