525352 2007-02-17 23:46:00 I always hated Macs, as I never knew where to store my documents (apart from the desktop). I like my icons on the left of the screen, but that's not the way OSX does it. Plus I like customizing my PC, and have no idea where thay are on a Mac. I also play a few games. :p

Was the "Documents" folder in Finder(explorer for windows users) to obvious:horrified .
Dell and HP must be two of the most customizerable pc's out there

I always understood "PC" to stand for Personal Computer which obviously come in several flavours.
As the so called "Kid" is the husband a Windows box and a Mac is probably the fairest way to go. :2cents:

525356 2007-02-18 19:17:00 I don't like Mac's advertising - "there were over 150k viruses for pc last year....pc..not mac"

Hitting at the pc isn't a smart idea...considering pcs have the majority of customers.

525357 2007-02-19 02:09:00 And the Documents folder is where?

in the finder window which is accessible fom either the dock or any folder that is open, on the left hand side.
Was that simple enough for your pea head brain:(

525358 2007-02-19 03:09:00 No - double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop is easier. pcuser42 (130)

well put a short(alias) cut on the desktop. macs arn't that primitive you can't create a shortcut

525360 2007-02-19 20:37:00 Time to retire the Win 98 file-chewer, which means relegating the 3 yr old XP machine to #2 and getting a new #1.
Which is fine, I was looking at pc specs, but my husband has taken it into his head that he wants a Mac, based on a PC World article a few months ago which said that you could emulate a PC pretty well on a Mac running XP.
Now, apart from the usual issues:
- poor software choice
- poor FREE software choice
- can't maintain the hardware yourself
Does anyone have any comments (no gratuitous obscenities please, I've already said them all)

As others have already said much depends on useage, games etc. If you're a computer hobbyist, getting a mac to play with would be fun IMO.

If he gets his wish on this choice now, perhaps this time next year that 4-yr old xp machine could be replaced with a vista-crushing mean machine PC as your new toy
