First of all go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and make sure you have all the latest stuff installed on your machine.

525091 2007-02-19 05:10:00 Now I know nuffin"

I did what Lennon suggested. First of all, my desktop came up with all the icons moved around and both icons and text much enlarged. Sorted that all out and lo and behold 95% of all the vertical lines have disappeared - just an odd blue one here and there.

NVidea Media centre icon has appeared bottom right and I suspect my updates may have caused a new download of NVidia. BUT, I had already downloaded NVidia last week as I thought it might be the cause of my
problems.

Anyway, I won't fight it. Thanks to all of you who took the trouble to reply to my cry for help. I'm no wiser:(

525092 2007-02-19 08:35:00 Try checking your screen refresh rate ( right-click desktop>properties>settings>advanced>adapter>list all modes )
should be on 1280x1024, 32bit, 60hz, for your model.
Alternatively, you could try removing and reseating your video card (bad connection?).
May possibly be video card/video ram ( on card ) is defective, had a card do something similar a while back.
Also, you should uninstall your previous video driver before installing a new one.

525094 2007-02-23 04:50:00 Jen - the vertical dashes have just about disappeared.
I haven't gone into Safe mode as I can't! Tapping F8 does nothing.

Nor can i get into System restore even after re-setting it.

What i really need is someone to come and sit down with me for an hour or two and get rid of all my bugs.

525095 2007-02-23 05:22:00 There is another way of making your computer boot into Safe mode. While Windows is running, go Start > Run. Type in msconfig and click OK. Under the BOOT.INI tab, put a check beside "\SAFEBOOT". Click Apply and then restart your computer. This should automatically take you into Safe mode instead of normal Windows mode. To get your machine back into normal Windows mode afterwards, just run msconfig again and remove the check mark from "\SAFEBOOT" and then restart the computer. Jen (38)
525096 2007-02-26 05:50:00 Thank you, Jen - you are dead right. When I got in to safe mode (thanks to you) I got vertical dash lines everywhere.

So, it is not a graphics problem, but a hardware problem. It's only a minor irritant right now. (In Safe Mode it was huge).

Where to, from there, mon ami.

I do not have a Windows disc as XP was installed with the computer. I do have the Product Key or a very friendly oem guy out there.
