525695 2007-02-19 06:42:00 Hullo All. This is not related to my earlier, successful DVD repair..

This one is on Maryann's computer. IT is a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-1673S. It does not work. Where do I start Looking please. PJ

525696 2007-02-19 07:10:00 I have been playing around with this. I put a music CD in & it does not Autoplay. Nor is there an Icon on the desktop to click & get any options. If I go to My Computer & select Drive E (the DVD one). Click on this & I can get "Play" or Play With Powerdrive 5.
How can I get this to work from the Desktop without going thro all this rigmarole. PJ

525697 2007-02-19 07:46:00 Looks like Its a common prob (search.yahoo.com) with this burner.

I would replace it.

525698 2007-02-19 07:56:00 Have just read that link. Sounds horrible.
Maybe we should get rid of it then & try another brand. PJ

Anyhow, 270 results is a non-event.Im sure that search on any brand dvd will turn up sometghing similar. and Lite-on are a top of the line brand.

Thats not to say they can't break, Anything can.

PJ, when you insert a disc does the read light come on?, flash?, Can you hear the drive "spin up?

525700 2007-02-19 08:33:00 The green light comes on solid. After awhile it blinks. Cannot hear the disc running, (Pretty deaf, like).
I can now get the "Nero Like" window on screen that asks what Windows is to do.
If I select "Play Vidio using Powerdrive 5, nothing happens..
If I select Play with Media Player it works. So I am getting there. PJ

525701 2007-02-19 08:34:00 Excellent, The drive works.... Metla (12)
525702 2007-02-19 08:35:00 Also. Maryann's region is set to "1". It will not let me change it to NZ, "4".
Next job is to get it to Record & Backup. PJ

525703 2007-02-19 10:05:00 You can only change the region if there is a DVD in the drive that is for the region you want to set the drive to. CYaBro (73)
525704 2007-02-19 10:50:00 Have you run out of region changes?
You can only have 5 changes before it stays fixed on the last one, I think, on the Lite-on drives you can only fix this by flashing the drive with modified firmware e.g. codeguys.rpc1.org

I put a music CD in & it does not Autoplay
Sounds like you might have an Autoplay glitch as well, sorry cant help on that one, my machine's doing the same thing, does anyone know a good fix for this ( apart from reinstalling windows  )?
