525478 2007-02-18 02:36:00 I finally got connected to broadband on friday. (yay!!) and my connection speed is quite acceptable.
if i connect to the internet directly through the ADSL router (1 port DSE router) My conennection is between 3-4 mbps
If I connect to the internet by plugging my computer (with cat5) into my wireless router, and having the ADSL router/modem also plug into the wireless router, my connection is also between 3-4 mbps.
However, the problem is, if I connect wirelessly to my router and access the internet, the internet speed never gets above 1.6 mbps! And this is on the same computer too.
There should be more than enough bandwith over the wireless connection, as I am connecting in 802.11g mode, and and my router is only a few cm away from the computer.
I have updated the router to the latest firmware, but no change.
I have tried briefly disabling security, but also has no effect.
My router is a NETGEAR WGR614v7
the router seems very stable, and hasnt dropped my wireless connection once. My speeds during file transferrs have been about 16-20 mbps
I am connecting to the router with the intel PROset wireless 3945abg that was inbuilt with the computer.

Anyone any Ideas has to why my INTERNET connection maxes out at 1.6 mbps when I connect wirelessly to the router??

After checking my wireless speed with netmeter (and discovering it was going at a healthy 22-24mbps) I used DrTCP to tweak my settings.

needless to say, my connection jumped from about 1.6mbps to about 2.5 mbps.
I might do a bit more teaking to see if I can get that figure to go any higher...
