525392 2007-02-17 06:56:00 I've been using Opera for a couple of years & all's worked fine.

But a couple of weeks ago
When I started Opera up & type a URL or click a bookmark, The Progress bar just display's "Document: 0 B"
leaving it for 10 minutes didn't help, but restarting it or using IE for a few minutes would kick start it.
Then a week ago it just stopped all together,

I've tried uninstalling it, Deleting all of the files in the install file to reset everything back to default settings, but it doesn't help.

What I would like to know is-

1. Where are the Bookmark's kept? (So I can copy them to Firefox)
2. Am I missing a folder/files somwhere that I need to delete?
3. Any other suggestions, as Firefox seems a bit quicker but I like the wand . actions of Opera (Mouse Gestures)
4. How long will XP stay stable etc without restarting the the computer?

Thanks
Daniel

525393 2007-02-17 07:12:00 Well the bookmark will either be called opera6.adr or opera.html, if u saved it as an html file.

Do a search for either. If you've only got the adr file, FF may or may not import it.

What version of Opera is installed? I would uninstall it, delete its folder in:

C:\Program Files\Opera

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data

Then reinstall either the last release of Opera or 9.2 build 8713 which is what its upto now.

What do you mean by this?

4. How long will XP stay stable etc without restarting the computer?

Or do u mean how long will XP last before u format it?

If this is what u mean, it depends on whether u get some trojan, virus or malware, that makes it unusable.

And whether you're using an AV program or some kind of firewall installed. And other anti-malware software installed at the mo. So u can scan for nasties.

You should be able to just fire up firefox go t

File -> Import

then select Opera from the options that appear and the rest should be simple

As for Opera you should be able to just install a new version over the existing one, just copy your bookmarks across to firefox first in case something goes wrong

525395 2007-02-17 07:24:00 I agree with Speedy - do a complete uninstall then reinstall the latest version. Save a copy of your Bookmarks file first though, the opera6.adr file, which you can then copy back once you have reinstalled. FoxyMX (5)

Is what I was missing cheers.

I leave my computer on 24/7, After a week or two it usually doesn't work quite as fast or well & need's the power to be turned off & then turned back on (Shutdown & then started back up).
I vaguely remember a family friend who knew alot about computers mention that 98 performed better if shutdown daily (I use XP these days).
Hopefully that explains it a bit better.

Cheers Nigel for the file -> Import, didn't know about that.

I'm downloading Opera (latest) now.
(I upgraded to the lastest version of Opera a week or so before all the trouble started)

Also a random queston, does firefox or any of it's addons mimic the wand commands of Opera (mouse gestures)?

Thanks for all the help

525397 2007-02-17 19:29:00 C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data

Is what I was missing cheers.

This folder is usually hidden, u have to run my computer then go to tools / folder options /view / show hidden files and folders to see it.

Ah ok, usually it should be stable. I've had mine on for a few days, never had a prob with it. Depends if its on the net as well, and could depend if you've got a firewall installed too (something besides XP's firewall that is).

But no point leaving the PC's here on. So, I turn them off.

You could have a bung PSU if it plays up all the time.

Pass, havent seen an addon like this yet.
