| 525378 | 2007-02-17 03:57:00 | Hi there Guys and girls . I have a bit of a problem, I have an old HP Pavilion 6609 . Its HDD is on the blink and I keep getting a message coming up saying that I must run Fix Disk straight away or risk losing all my data . Well thats not a real worry cause there is nothing on there, but any I need to replace it . So I have grabbed a couple of different drive brands, MAXTOR, SEGATE and I think I even tried a Western Digiy but every time I boot the PC up it says that there is no HDD to be found . I am guessing that because HP a propitiatory Basta**s :angry that they require firmware on there HDD to enable the Mother Board to see it . Well I have tried searching Google for away to get around this or to fix it but have come up blank . Can any body out there help!! As anyone got any ideas about what else I can try . FYI - All the the HDD work prefect in other machines . Look forward to hearing back from you soon . Thanks |

| 525380 | 2007-02-17 05:49:00 | Say how BIG are the Drives? Maybe the HP has a Maximum size it can use, and the drives you are trying to use a re too big . Ya probably gonna have to replace with same size, more or less . Maybe you could try re-setting the BIOS by taking system battery out, or however the CMOS can be reset . Then redo all the setting for the drive, etc . Just a thought |

I just normally thought that HP did that sort og thing . Oh well silly me and I guess you lear something every day . I will Flash the BIOS and remove the CMOS battery and then try with a new HDD around the same size . Thanks for your help[ guys and girls  |

Thanks for the sarcastic response mate but I am not bloody stupid and I know how to insert a bloody HDD . I have set the jumpers on this drive to MASTER, and Cable Select both giving the same result . In future don't bother with sarcastic petty post |

You didn't actually tell us anything about the jumpers and stuff, so its a perfectly reasonable suggestion . |
