525939 2007-02-28 22:51:00 Go into services (for the HP device) and change it to disable .

See if it makes any diff .

I think the only other way to remove the service, is to search for the name of the HP service in the registry .

And delete every instance of it, in the registry then reboot . Thats if HP haven't got some kind of tool that does this for you .

I would send another email to HP to see if they've got some kind of tool that can remove unused HP services .

That's where I get the Error 05 - Access Denied message .

525943 2007-02-28 23:14:00 I would go into event viewer in control panel / admin tools .

Click on system and application on the left . See if there are any X or warning entries .

Double click on the entries if there are any and see what it says and click on the link if it shows one .

This may give u an idea on why its denying access and maybe a fix on how to fix it .

Run RegEdit.

Under /HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/PML Driver HPZ12, (Or whatever model) click on Start at the right, and then change the Dword value from 2 (automatic) or 3 (I believe for manual) to 4 (for disabled).

After I did this, I've received no "access denied" messages when running msconfig and services.msc.

OK. I gave that a try and it made no difference. Over the weekend I will try a thorough uninstall/purge of everything HP related and see if that helps. If not, I may just do an XP repair from CD.
