| 527065 | 2007-02-22 06:39:00 | Hi, Today I found a notification on my pc indicating that Microsoft wanted to download a program.Knowing that it was not Super Tuesday I looked at what it wanted to download and found it was Microsoft WGA. I thought I already had downloaded WGA a couple of times before, I know that I did when I downloaded IE7.I thought that I would only have to do it once and that would be it. When I went though the install program it did give me the option to bail out which I took. I brought my PC from Harvey Norman so I think I am safe in saying my XP system is legal, why should I have to constantly prove so to Microsoft. Question is by not installing WGA am I in any way disadvantaging myself ? (pun not intended) Or should I just get over my annoyance and install it Your thoughts ? |

Personally, whilst I thinks it's a bit OTT to have to download the WGA tool several times I just put it down to a neccessary evil, that in the end does give one peace of mind to a certain extent. just my :2cents: worth. cheers chiefnz |

It is easy enough to do via deleting files and registry entries, but there are websites telling you how to do it and offering removal tools to do the job. For example: www.mydigitallife.info www.softpedia.com Then if you really want the myriad updates get them from autopatcher: http://www.autopatcher.com/ There is nothing illegal at all in removing this MS 'crap-ware'. |

| 527069 | 2007-02-22 07:34:00 | MS are hardening WGA, but from what I can gather, it's an opt in thing not compulsory. Though I imagine that many who have auto updates turned on will bag it anyway, having opted in by the mere fact that they have auto update turned on. (Caveat: I haven't checked the EULA to confirm if that is the case, all the same, it is pretty standard practice for you know who). | Murray P (44) | ||
