526612 2007-02-20 22:50:00 Does anyone know of the free program to carry out this conversion? I have only one file to convert so I don't wish to buy a program just for this? I have searched for freeware programs on Google but mostly shareware programs come up.
Thanks.

526613 2007-02-20 23:19:00 OGG are audio files, MPG and AVI are movie files so you won't be able to convert them.

If you want to convert an OGG file to MP3 however, CDex will do the job nicely.

526614 2007-02-21 00:14:00 The file I have has an extension of .ogg and can play as a video on WMP if the correct codec is installed.

See en.wikipedia.org which explains that ogg files can contain audio or video content.

526615 2007-02-21 03:33:00 Super (www.erightsoft.com) and Mediacoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) are two proggies that should support Ogg conversion. I have not checked their site for what they support, so you will have to check them yourself. :xmouth: bob_doe_nz (92)
526616 2007-02-21 03:36:00 SUPER is a super free program :) It will just about convert anything to anything, I use it a lot. Terry Porritt (14)
526617 2007-02-21 04:03:00 Yep, i can confirm that SUPER can convert .ogg video to .mpg or .avi (and a bunch of other formats).

SUPER is an amazing program. It's the best audio/video encoder/decoder around. And it's free.

526618 2007-02-21 21:24:00 Thanks for that. Have downloaded Super and will give it a go. user (1404)
526619 2007-02-22 07:52:00 FoxyMX is exactly right. OGM is the ext for video (usually divx, xvid etc) with ogg audio, tho Matroska (MKV) superseded OGM.

generally OGM its simply an AVI, so most AVI tools will work with it.

526621 2007-02-22 10:05:00 OGG is a wrapper which can have multiple media streams stored inside it. Theora is the OGG video format while Vorbis is the OGG audio format. A video will usually have both Theora (for the images) and Vorbis (for the sound) streams. TGoddard (7263)
