| 526144 | 2007-02-20 06:01:00 | This is probably a very common topic but I will ask anyway. I will by buying a replacement laptop very soon. Shall I use Vista or XP Pro as the OS? MY own feeling is that buying a new computer with XP is like buying an older model car when a later model is available. Any thoughts? Also why are manufacturers still pushing XP when Vista is available? | ephesus (2509) | ||
| 526145 | 2007-02-20 06:11:00 | Because there are more drivers for XP than Vista for one. And you only have to do a search in google or yahoo, to see what the pros and cons of Vista are. |

Realistically this is a stupid question! Read some reviews online and go into a store and use Vista for yourself and then make an informed decision on what is best for you. | Pete O'Neil (6584) | ||
| 526147 | 2007-02-20 06:17:00 | Well not everyone has like 800-900 bucks to spare either to buy a full version if they dont want the upgrade. Depending on what version of Vista they want to buy. |

| 526148 | 2007-02-20 06:18:00 | When you buy your pc it will most likely be installed with vista as its the newest OS out so naturally they are going to put it on their. Xp is still being pushed cause as of yet vista doesnt have all the drivers and hardware and bugs ironed out yet.On the the other hand i have Vista home premium and no problems with it at all. Make sure you get a grunty pc with 2.8ghz or higher processeor and 1gb of ram or more and and descent graphics card and you will be fine. Avoid the warehouse laptops they have hardly any power at all and you would end up spending more money than necessary. |

No one, but no one needs to buy the full retail version, not when the upgrade can be clean installed. http://www.windowssecrets.com/ |

I have to say that's a bit harsh Pete!!! I wouldn't go so far as to say that we are close-minded. I think it's more a case of how Vista has eventually arrived. It is ill supported because of the way MS has dragged the rollout of the OS. I think what you and other may term closed-minded is simply a case of caution and at times utter dismay at MS. I personally would have thought they would have learnt a few things from the Windows XP realease and how that was a pain when it 1st came out. The same is true for Vista. What most people are experiencing now are the usual teething problems but they are of a greater degree than what most users are accustomed to when compared to other OS rollouts. PF1 users are slow on the uptake because we're all probably waiting for Vista to settle in as well as the manufacturers. Money is a problem with Vista, and depending on what you're currently running spending up to $1000 dollars will be something a lot of Vista adpters will have to do. Cheers chiefnz |

| 526153 | 2007-02-20 08:16:00 | No, not yet. I had Vista for a week. I admit I loved it very much. It was far more stable than XP when I used it. My games ran just fine (although King Kong needed an update from Ubisoft). All in all, Vista is great. The thing that made me revert back to XP is Vista's poor handling of updating my audio and video drivers. |
