526263 2007-02-24 03:09:00 well i'm holding off to save myself the hassle of major security issues, and in the vain hope that the price might come down.... plus my objection to the system requirements and 'anti' piracy crap

we've all got choices, and in this case neither option harms anyone else so what's the issue?

what major security issues has vista got at the moment compared to XP?
The price ain't that bad.
education upgrade home premium $198 and upgrade home premium $348
For a comparison tiger(osx) is $239 or $349 for the family pack. God only knows why you would buy a family pack when the single user version doesn't have a key code and can be installed on multiple machines without worry

the funny thing about security holes is no-one knows they're there until someone finds and possibly exploits them. MS cannot rightly say vista is their most secure OS untill they replace it, at which point they can compare the amount of flaws it has to XP/NT/whatever. it's like me saying my new bike is the fastest ever without actually having seen if it will even start

and after reading up on the various packages offered, it would seem for my use i want to buy Ultimate. unfortunately that version, being the one with all the new features, costs over $600.

Isn't that what the beta releases were for?

So you're happy to pay a gigantic price for a product that is pretty much still in beta? Scary.

yes that is what they're for, but eventually MS decided they needed to make some money and were "close enough". they obviously aren't "close enough" so i'm not buying it yet

no i'm not, see my other posts where i state how i find it overpriced and won't be purchasing it myself until sp2 atleast.

i am happy for people to do it themselves. it's their money and their lives, all i can do is say why i'm holding out and let them carry on their way. either way it doesn't really affect me

In England they pay about 345 pound campared to the USA price of 195 pound for the ultimate ver. (the prices I quoted may not be exact but pretty close)
Why do MS have such a price difference. It's got the poms boiling and holding off buying. Looks mightily like price gouging to me. Gates made a stupid comment about the exchange rate that went down like a lead balloon.

526267 2007-02-24 07:25:00 no, you aren't listening.

if microsoft was to release a reasonably bug-free os, we wouldn't be seeing vista untill atleast 2009.

if you're dumb enough to convert some critical process to vista you shouldn't be in charge of that process. but i do agree MS should give more warning.

if someone is willing to be our crash-test dummy, they're welcome to. all it means is we get the (near) finished product sooner.

I'm listening son, but you just don't understand the principal behind making something and selling it and on the other hand having a job to do and purchasing something to get it done. Actually I'm struggling to understand how such a basic principal itself can be so carelessly tossed aside in the interests of supporting a tenuous and ill-conceived argument.

Maybe you haven't caught up with the fact that Vista is in the market place as a finished product for people to purchase and, people are actually purchasing it.

Just for your edification, I have not and will not purchase Vista in the near future, I'm not quite that 'dumb", though plenty of apparently smart people have. Plenty of apparently trustworthy outlets are advertising and selling Vista. Yep, strange as it may seem to you, it's true.

You contradict yourself within two paragraphs. You say MS should give more warning, then in the next para say that if people want to, they should be allowed to be 'crash test dummies". The point is, very few of the people who purchase Vista have little real choice because they are not informed and know no better. Kind of a critical point in all this don't you think. :groan:

526268 2007-02-24 07:47:00 contradictory? no. if people WANT to they can be test dummies. the fact they don't know they're about to is an issue, as you say.

i know they _should_ have it all sorted when they sell it, but that would just take too long. we'd never get a product as by the time it's bug-free it's all obsoleted (for lack of a better word)

furthermore, many people have no issues with it, and the people who buy it simply because it's new without knowledge of its faults won't find many anyway. if you buy a prebuilt system vista will be loaded with all the neccessary drivers anyway.

as i've found with XP, things only start to go wrong once i start to fiddle with things i shouldn't.

526271 2007-02-24 08:23:00 I've just now scanned the rest iof the thread  I'm almost nonplussed, almost.

Anyway. Hey Mod, can I swear, can I call someone "as utterly thick as pig .... moron I've ever come across"? But wait, there's two of the f...er's on the same thread and these idiots are so oblivious to their plight that they're happily burbling away in public and, get this, calling people "dumb". They made a movie about these guys.

Who gets the credit for such rank stupidity, their parents or the ducation system. Personally I don't think any one thing could have caused this, it must have been a joint effort of epic proportions. Well, I guess I shouldn't let the opportunity pass.

Hey guys, do ya want to buy a car.... How about a bridge or a nice castle, eh?

Edit: Motorbyclist, *** use a blimmin dictionary. Your first task is to look up contradictory. If you have any trouble comprehending it's meaning, get back to us, eh.

There's also another small thing you should know, just because you repeat something often, doesn't make it so. Ok!
