| 526124 | 2007-02-22 03:06:00 | I'd suggest you 'have a go' at the repair install FIRST.......if you have no hassles as is quite possible then all will be well.......you may end up with soem minor hassles ......which wont be too hard to fix......you may end up with no hassles at all......then again if it's a major you could then goto the lengths required of a full reinstall etc............. | drcspy (146) | ||
| 526125 | 2007-02-22 19:39:00 | your Q to me on my thread: have you had any issues with the repair job? did it keep all your installed apps intact? and all your settings? i'm about to do exactly as you have Yes, all programs, settings and data were intact. Some problems - see my thread - but am happy with the final result. When you Repair XP, there are two ways to do it. Sorry, cannot recall exactly and have to rush away now - One way is via Recovery Console which did not work so I tried the other option WinXP set up offered up. Just as here and we will help you. |

| 526127 | 2007-02-23 00:31:00 | Maybe I was lucky but I had one of those MBs with crook capacitors die on me so I didnt have a lot of choice other than installing the new MB and seeing what happened. Windows came up with the usual Found new Hardware and went about sorting everything out itself. At one stage I had to insert the MB driver disk but apart from that we were up and running in no time. I wonder if the BIOS is a factor in why sometimes its a major changing motherboards? PS Ive just remembered that after it had been running for quite a while I had to ring M$ and reactivate Windows. |
