2007-02-20 16:08:00 | I struggle to see why it is that a lot of people on here have a lot of hi spec pcs that they talk about yet some of them say they are having trouble running vista on them. My pc is high spec not that high spec but it runs vista very well with no crashes or driver trouble etc, So why is it some of you are having trouble. Id be very interested to here PLEASE some honest answers as this is just a question in general. It is simple realy. People try to make their computer into a slave.:groan: That is they treat it with disrespect, and it responds in kind. I treat my computer with respect and it never gives me any trouble.:)

2007-02-20 22:44:00 | Thanks for all your comments. From what I have read in this forum so far, it seems that VISTA is the way to go forward ....BUT not just yet. I don't see the point of getting a new laptop with XP and pay again to upgrade later. I will just have to prolong the life of my laptop for a few more months until Vista is more stable and compatibility issues with periperals and softwares sorted out. | ephesus (2509) | |
2007-02-21 02:28:00 | I think you have got it:Vista has heaps of problems and I see MS are working on a new OS for release in 2009 so best not to get Vista till just before the new release which will not have any bugs and be VERY secure. | kjaada (253) | |
2007-02-21 02:30:00 | Yeah this might sound like a stupid question until you go into a store and salespeople are pushing XP instead of VISTA. I find there is little difference in using both OS as a lay person. The fact that I am buying a new laptop, I would prefer to have the newer OS if there are no major disadvantages. The salespeople are pushing XP because they have been told (bribed) to sell the old PCs so they can restock with new ones with Vista on them. They get paid on comission, and the stores may have bumped up the com. on thoes older PCs.

2007-02-22 09:04:00 | Go vista, but don't skimp on the hardware. | Greven (91) | |
2007-02-22 09:04:00 | Rawkus i see you are running the same amount of ram as me with the same type of memory 3 512s and a 256. I have just 2.8ghz so you are a little bit quicker than me, i also have intel pentium D. | Hitech (9024) | |
2007-02-22 09:12:00 | So, you're an experienced user Rawkus, and more experienced at using Vista than the vast majority of people at that . I assume, though I could be wrong, that the thread starter is not so experienced, otherwise he would not be asking the question(s) he/she has . I also assume that the thread starter is not necessarily getting new peripherals, because I have no information to the contrary . In my experience, if you must make assumptions, it is better to assume conservatively, least you lead someone into the poo .

2007-02-22 10:29:00 | Rawkus, I too was getting releases of it since way back & before RC1.. every single time Ive tried it on varying hardware for a good fair decent amount of time. Still sadly Im not impressed. Got a "The wow starts now" flyer in the mail. Selling points for vista under the "New or improved features in Windows Vista" section are: Windows defender & Windows firewall - Yawn.. nothing special here Instant Search & IE 7 - Again, this isnt a reason to get XP. Google have a desktop search that does this Windows Aero with Flip3D Navigation - Yay, I can take twice as long to switch between my tasks by showing it off to my friends as I do so :( Windows Mobility Centre - Anything special here? Maybe? Ive not used Vista on a laptop, no comment, but benefit of the doubt = Good Windows Meeting Space - Okay, havent used this enough, but it sounds like a beefed up version of Netmeeting :-/ maybe if you're a corporate it'd be worth the upgrade for? Windows Media Centre - Okay, so streaming movies to your Xbox 360 would be cool, but I do that with my normal xbox anyways. No reason to upgrade here, XP has Media Player / VLC, thats enough for most Protect against hardware failure with advanced business backup features - Okay, this sounds a little cool, but even WinZip has backup scheduling and stuff in it now. Not really worth the $900 for Vista Ultimate Networking and Remote Desktop - This comes with XP, moving right along Bitlocker drive encryption - THIS is cool, especially for laptops containing sensitive data. I like this feature.. but its $900 for Vista Ultimate, and thats a lil much... Hope this feature list helps some people decide if they want Vista or not..
