526775 2007-02-21 07:57:00 True WEP is also crackable.

So is WPA too I think, BUT, thats the only con of wireless, its not as secure as ethernet. (altho ethernet can be "sniffed" as well).

I would disable Sygate, see if it makes any diff. Just to make sure what you've entered in it isnt causing the prob.

Get Comodo :D Might be easier to figure out than trying to create rules.

526776 2007-02-21 08:00:00 For those who are interested, the "Wireless Network Connection" window says:

"Please wait while Windows connects to the 'Home' Network."

"Waiting for the network..."

when I try to connect the laptop to the network.

So what info did u put in on both under their LAN / properties / TCP/IP??

What ips?

And what ip did u put in on the connected PC? And the default gateway?

Addresses on laptop:
IP Address: 198.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Not Filled Out

Addresses on home computer:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Not Filled Out

Cheers :)

I can't disable SPF Pro as it is bounded to the system.:o

526778 2007-02-21 08:15:00 I bought a siemens wireless router from orcon 2 weeks ago and i was told by the head manager who helped set it up over the phone to disable the wep.
I said to him wont i get hacked he said no just use a MAC address as your security he said thats safer than wep. All this had to be done to get my laptop and xbox 360 running , After spending the whole weekend putting in different security codes into the router they tells me its not needed.
So after i got off the phone i started thinking am i still more vulnerable to a hack attack even though im using mac addresses to activate my 360 and laptop through the router.

526779 2007-02-21 08:19:00 Addresses on laptop:
IP Address: 198.168.0.2

Default Gateway: Not Filled Out

IP Address: 198.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Not Filled Out - If u want this to get on the net, this has to be changed to 192.168.0.1

And put the isp's dns server ips in as well. You can try it without the DNS server ips but I would say the gateway needs to have the above.

Addresses on home computer:
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Not Filled Out

This looks OK.

This could be whats causing the prob why theyre not connecting.

If the rule/s you've put in are wrong.

Did u disable the onboard LANS on both or not?

If you havent and theyre using the same ips as what you've put in for the wireless, the ips will conflict.

Thats if the onboard LAN's are connected now as well.

526780 2007-02-21 08:23:00 Oopsy, I meant 192.168.0.2 on the laptop :o Renmoo (66)
526781 2007-02-21 08:27:00 Oopsy, I meant 192.168.0.2 on the laptop :o

If u mean for the gateway (on the laptop), it should be 192.168.0.1 (so it goes thru the main PC), not 0.2. The ip for the laptop is OK (192.168.0.2).

Wakey wakey James, are the onboard LAN connections on both disabled?

And the ethernet on both aren't connected at the mo?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
526782 2007-02-21 09:38:00 Yes, the onboard LAN connections are disabled. They are not connected at the moment. All addresses under TCP / IP of LAN connection has been cleared. The addresses for the Ad Hoc connection are as mentioned above.

*I meant 192.168.0.2 for laptop IP. Right now I intend to connect the laptop to the computer first. :D

By the way, I have selected "Allow all" at SPF, but still no help.
Cheers :)

526783 2007-02-21 09:57:00 I would uninstall Sygate and install Comodo (www.personalfirewall.comodo.com)

Then after u install it on both, go to network monitor / tasks / define a new trusted network, and next then the NICS for the wireless should appear, then click on next.

Thats it.

526784 2007-02-21 19:42:00 A summary of what changes that I have made:

1) Addresses for onboard LAN connection on both computers have been cleared.
2) Both onboard LAN connections have been disabled.
3) Addresses have been specified for Wireless connection instead of having them obtained from DHCP (APIPA).
4) Sygate Personal Firewall Pro has been set to "allow all" traffic.
5) Advanced Rules have been specified in SPF Pro to allow both computers to connect to each other.
6) Third-party wireless-connection configuration software on both computers have been disabled. Instead, they are managed by Windows.

After executing those steps above, I still cannot connect the laptop to the wireless network.

Cheers :)
