527846 2007-02-25 01:12:00 I have MicroStar MS-6330 2.1 mobo,NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 32MB & 1.20 GHz AMD Athlon,but i want to get a 512 Mb video and at least 2.6-8 GHz cpu so what mobo should i get? emes34 (11736)
527847 2007-02-25 02:08:00 Well that depends on how much u want to spend, and whether you want AMD or Intel based.

Coz you'll most probably have to get the mobo cpu and ram.

527848 2007-02-25 02:46:00 To get current generation stuff you will need new RAM (DDR2), and as for the CPU, a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo completely destroys a 2.8GHz Pentium D so it is all down to how much you want to spend.. give us a price and we will recommend what would be best in your price range (also a little description about what it will be used for) The_End_Of_Reality (334)
527849 2007-02-25 02:57:00 An ASUS. pctek (84)
527850 2007-02-25 07:43:00 i have also about 550 mb ram.the money is not a problem,i just want a good mobo which can run my new configuration and of course it doesn't need to be very expensive.my other pc has asus i think and it's very good.i still haven't choosen what will be the processor only the video (Radeon X1600 AGP 512 MB) so u can give an advice for it too :) emes34 (11736)
527851 2007-02-25 08:47:00 Don't go AGP, it is old and actually more expensive than PCI-E... and try finding a mobo for an AGP card, they are a lot more rare than PCI-E cards

As I said above, what will it be used for?

and TBH DDR RAM is on its way out, all the current gen CPUs (Intel has been running DDR2 for a while and AMDs socket AM2)

527852 2007-02-25 08:50:00 mostly for movies & games emes34 (11736)
527853 2007-02-25 08:59:00 With my limited experience I came up with this: www.nzoczone.com
- Intel® Quad-core CPU Ready
- Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo Ready

The advantage would appear that it supports both duo and quad core. Quad is too expensive now but duo is affordable and later you could pop in a quad.

How does duo core compare with AMD ??

527854 2007-02-25 18:34:00 In that case, get the best Intel Core 2 Duo you can afford, as much DDR2 800 RAM as you can (2GB+ is best for gaming) and the mobo Steve posted looks good (nice one Steve :) ) though it doesn't have SLI or Crossfire ability...

R 600 is going to be released in about 5 weeks, so you could wait for that (will be the best GFX cards out).

So overall for RAM, CPU, GFX Card and Mobo how much would you like to spend?

527855 2007-02-25 19:58:00 For Intel the P5B range of ASUS boards are good, there are several with various features, decide what you need and don't need on the board and choose accordingly.

You'll need to chnage the board, CPU, RAM and graphics card.
