527551 2007-02-24 05:28:00 Hi There

I have a question. Can anyone recommend an alternative program similar to windows explorer?

It appears Windows explorer is showing my video files as 1,2,3,4,5... 32

However when I use an alternative program called ExplorerXP the videos are not arrange properly and it shows something like this 1,5,6,7,2,3 causing my harddrive base player to list video files not in their number sequence on the tv.This means that after the first episode is played the harddrive player will then play the next episode which is number 5 instead of number 2.

The problem with explorer Xp is that you cant sort the files by numbers

I've tried other programs and it seems some programs are showing the files identical to windows explorer while a program which is called explorer xp is showing things differently.

Any ideas why?

527552 2007-02-24 05:52:00 There's a few links here (www.pcnet-online.com)

Theyre not free tho. Another one is Directory Opus, which was popular for the Amiga.

I wouldnt have any idea why. I'm not too fussy, how my files are numbered.

What am I missing?

527554 2007-02-24 07:22:00 Yes.I already done that on windows explorer

But take a look here

Two different program.Two different layout

I plug my harddrive player into the TV to play.

The menu which shows a list of file in the folder is 1,19,15,12... like that shown on the left so after the first epsisode finish it goes to the next one which is something like episode 19 instead of episode 2

527555 2007-02-24 08:39:00 So what you're saying is when you view the external drive, it shows them in the wrong way because it uses a different file browser, but it's ok in Windows, correct?

Does the other browser give you the option to view the files in detail view, rather than the list view shown? In Windows, that will order the files by date and time, it may be the same in that one. Another trick is to rename files with _00 in front of the sequential number, e.g 001, 002, 003, etc, which prevents the stupid things from reordering once the hit 10.

527557 2007-02-24 10:33:00 PowerDesk is a good alternative to Explorer. I think you would be better to go to the command prompt and cd to the directory then dir to get the way they are truely listed as against a sorted display. mikebartnz (21)
527558 2007-02-24 11:45:00 I like Windows Commander (now known as Total Commander) from Ghisler ( Faster, better and much more powerful than exploder. It is shareware, but I think it is more than worth the money he asks. You can download it (All 1.7MB of it) from TechSpot.
